Facts About Bullying In Montgomery County

Girls are more likely to be cyberbullied, while boys tend to get into physical fights.

Adolescent LGBTQ+ students are the most likely to face all forms of bullying.

10% of all Latinx High School students said that they had stayed home from school because they didn't feel safe.

Data from the 2013 Maryland Youth Risk Behavior Survey for Montgomery County shows that the older a student is, the less likely the are to report being bullied. Staring in grade six, about 50% report bring bullied and that drops by 30% by the time they reach ninth grade. By twelfth grade, approximately 14% report bullying.

The drastic decline in the number of reports of bullying from younger to older students in the above data table goes to show that older students aren't reporting being bullied, learned how to defend themselves, or have chosen to ignore being bullied.

Getting older students to help younger students deal with being bullied has the opportunity to help them take back control over their lives.
